Polygon Labs has just announced a new partnership with Humanity Protocol. Which is a human centric layer two protocol that wants to provide a safer and more private onchain verification method.
Through this partnership Polygon is now involved in the development of palm recognition for onchain verification purposes, eliminating the need for centralised accounts when verifying users data.
Polygon Labs Announces Partnership with Humanity Protocol
Polygon announced its partnership through a Twitter (X) post that states they are currently in the development stage of helping Humanity Protocol bring a new onchain verification method to the crypto world.
This development is also a collaboration with Animoca Brands which is a well known game software developer company and a respected venture capital especially in the crypto GameFi space.
Humanity Protocol has confirmed this collaboration through a medium post where they stated that the innovation that is being built is a way to preserve privacy in the blockchain space.
Preserving the privacy aspect of crypto is an important aspect because most investors that use blockchain technology do not want to be seen or tracked, meaning they don’t want people to know how much money they have.
While some use it for illicit activities, some investors just genuinely don’t want people to know how much money they have so they use blockchain technologies because one of the main concepts of blockchain originally was anonymity.
Nowadays there are some blockchains that want to integrate onchain and offchain verification by introducing centralised accounts for verification methods onchain.
For example, there are some chains that have integrated Google Mail as their verification method for their blockchain users, meaning that the wallet address of that user can be linked to their email account, hence making their privacy tainted.
Humanity wants to limit this integration to keep the privacy aspect alive by implementing a new technology where users can just use their palm for verifications.
Palm Recognition as Innovation
There are some blockchains that still keep user’s privacy in mind for example by only using a pass key to verify their account or just using a regular decentralised wallet.
While this is private, it is not really convenient because users need to keep track of their accounts and will have to remember each key or password to each account.
To enhance user’s experience onchain, Human Protocol want to develop a verification where they can just use their palm to scan like most biometrics verification methods do.
Using the full palm will bring convenience rather than using just one finger because then, users do not need to remember which finger they use to verify different accounts.
The method is currently still under development as Human Protocol itself has not even launched their testnet yet.
Thankfully, Animoca Brands and Polygon Labs are behind the project now where the development is currently using the Polygon CDK, which is a development kit for developers that want to utilise Polygon technology.
Overall, the Humanity Protocol does not only want to introduce a new verification method but want to introduce a new layer two protocol that uses a new consensus mechanism called Proof of Humanity, meaning that there are humans operating the network and not fully automated.
It is still unclear of where Humanity Protocol layer two will be used for, but seeing the development stage of Polygon and how it is growing its own ecosystem aside from Ethereum’s, Humanity Protocol might be the layer two protocol for Polygon’s own blockchain ecosystem.
This will bring Polygon out of the narrative of only being a layer two blockchain and be its own layer one blockchain with its own growing ecosystem that recently has gained attention of the crypto market, especially with the launch of Polygon Ventures.
